An update on the branding topic. Last week I mentioned that spending some money on professional design competences would be well spent. After bringing this up, the decision was quickly made to do it ourselves and, as a side effect, keep the money in our pocket. And probably spend it on even more pressing items. We may be facing some re-design later on but now organizing the development and coordinating this with an external party may just take up too much of the available resources (time and money).
A portion of last week’s time was spent on getting more familiar with social media marketing (SMM). Given our objectives and service offering we believe that social media (twitter, facebook and the like) can be a good vehicle in supporting our startup activities. It’s quite a popular topic so it’s not like you spend two days in the internet and be fully up to speed. This will be an ongoing thing…Perfectly in sync with the life long learning approach.
It goes without saying that a lot of hours are spent on developing our application. The new tool we are about to invest in will surely ease that process?!

What's keeping us busy this week
Just a quick update. Parallel to the more challenging and also interesting actions that are currently underway, there is a number of activities that need to be performed. Sometimes it’s a little hard to distinguish between the two.
What’s rather not so exciting? Making inquiries into the mandatory insurances for example. From a business perspective a liability insurance is mandatory. If you recruit personnel additional insurance(s) become necessary. Just today I learned that in Portugal you would require what is called ‘Accidentes de Trabalho’. That almost speaks for itself.
Of course, if you have office space and some equipment you will be using there you may want insurances for them too. But whenever it’s not a mandatory insurance you can always decide to take the insurance yourself (with a certain possibility that you will never use it) or pay someone to do it for you and to just have peace of mind. I guess it partly depends on the type of business you are in and the real risk concerned in that particular situation. I am confident that our business, especially when in the start up phase, can easily go with just the mandatory insurances.
More interesting stuff has to do with coming up with the branding of the company. House style, colour scheme, logo design and so forth. I feel that’s really important. What image do you want to portray and how do you get there? I am thinking about asking some professional advice on this because I feel that is going to be money well spent. So more on this topic shortly.
In the category ‘grey’ some activities are meaningful but yet sometimes represent boring work. Creating content for a website is really important but when part of that content consists of setting up ‘lists with options’ where visitors can choose from…I suppose we just have to make sure there will not be too many lists.
Interested already into what business we are going? Just hang in there for a little while longer.

Created the blog
This blog wants to inform you on all the things we think we have to do when creating a company and putting it in the Portuguese market. Don't get us wrong: we believe we already have a great idea. Now it's time to realize the ambitions. And a lot of that is just work.
So follow us and read along. We may want to ask you for advice, input or feedback making it the best possible product.
A little warning: at this stage we would like to keep some things a little hush hush and don't give away too much on the idea already. We trust you will understand this.
Still: follow us for the next couple of months (and after) and let's experience our market introduction together!
